ELK TOWNSHIP — A 65-year-old Muskegon man died Saturday evening after crashing a mini bike on a forest trail in Lake County, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Per an Oct. 13 news release, deputies were dispatched around 6:25 p.m. Oct. 12 to an area about 150 feet from U.S. Forest Service Road 8445 in Elk Township.
A witness told deputies the mini bike was traveling westbound on an unnamed trail when it struck a tree stump, ejecting the rider. The man was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Lake County 911 Central Dispatch, the Sauble-Elk-Eden Fire Department, Life EMS, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, and the Mid-Michigan Medical Examiner Group.
