A terribly sad sight, and one that is all too common in Mississippi, was caught on camera by local rescuer Chrissy Cheshire. She runs a rescue called Cheshire Abbey.

Chrissy was called to a property in Jackson and found a heartbreaking sight. There were at least 16 dogs in deplorable condition, either chained, contained in kennels, or just being eaten alive by fleas with their ribs showing on the property. Capitol police also responded to the scene.

Many of the dogs were tangled in heavy chains. One was struggling to breathe at the end of a heavy chain. Cheshire said he had been eaten up with heartworms and appeared to be barely alive.
