CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police released its third-quarter public safety report on Wednesday, highlighting several encouraging trends.
From January through September 2025, CMPD said overall crime in Charlotte has dropped 8% compared to the same time last year, with a 20% decrease in violent offenses.
Crime Statistics
According to CMPD’s report, the City of Charlotte has seen decreases in areas: • Homicides down 24% (62 so far in 2025 vs. 82 in 2024) • Aggravated assaults down 19% • Robberies dropped by 22% • Property crimes declined 5% overall • Vehicle thefts dropped, from 5,850 in 2024 to 4,627 this year
While some crimes, like commercial burglaries and vehicle larcenies, saw increases, CMPD leaders said the overall trend in 2025 is positive.
