SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. — There will be no widening project on busy Teays Valley Road in Putnam County.

The state Division of Highways announced Friday that it is cancelling the project after it proved to be “divisive among local residents and business owners.”

“I have directed the West Virginia Division of Highways to cancel further development of the Teays Valley Road Widening project in Putnam County,” state Transportation Secretary Todd Rumbaugh said in a news release.

Plans were to widen the windy road between Great Teays Blvd. and U.S Route 35. Engineers had designed four roundabouts to be part of the project.

Some residents favored it but many didn’t. It became a heated topic of discussion at local meetings.

Rumbaugh said they couldn’t reach a consensus.
