KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - The Killeen Fire Department has been serving the community since 1920, and for over 10 years, that has earned them the highest ISO rating of a 1 out of 10.

“It’s pretty much a badge of honor and we’re going to wear that very proudly,” Chief Jim Kubinski of the Killeen Fire Department said.

Early last month, they received their latest evaluation - maintaining their rating!

The ISO or Public Protection Classification evaluates a departments readiness when duty calls. In turn, this rating is critical to insurance rates -- it helps to determine homeowners insurance premiums.

There’s 1,844 departments in the Lone Star State. Only 74 of them hold the ISO class one rating.
