Boston police recovered 11 mopeds and the same number of people were cited or summoned as part of an enforcement operation Wednesday, officials said in a statement.
The people received the citations and criminal summonses for “violations including operating unregistered and uninsured motor vehicles,” the Boston Police Department said in a statement Thursday.
“This initiative was carried out in response to ongoing public safety concerns involving mopeds and scooters and their connection to auto law violations, thefts, robberies, and shootings,” according to the statement.
Police said this operation and other similar ones are meant to tackle current illegal activity with scooters and mopeds and to discourage future similar acts with them.
