CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) - Illinois men's basketball was victorious in its first outing of the 2025-26, although it won't count on the record book.
Illinois beat Illinois State 92-65 on Sunday.
Freshman David Mirkovic, from Montenegro, did lots of good things in his first time playing in State Farm Center. He finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds and six assists.
Freshman Brandon Lee scored 17 points. Zvonimir Ivisic had 15, including three makes from beyond the arc. Kylan Boswell scored 14 points.
Jack Daugherty led the Redbirds with 16 points.
Underwood's team was without Tomislav Ivisic (tonsils), Andrej Stojakovic (injury), Mihailo Petrovic (eligibility) and Ty Rodgers (injury).
Illinois opens its regular season on Monday, Nov. 3 at home against Jackson State.
