FISHER, Ill. (WCIA) -- Fisher High School freshman and baseball player Colt Daugherty finished top-5 in a national baseball competition, earning himself an expenses-paid trip to game two of the World Series.

It was part of the MLB’s Pitch, Hit and Run contest, which tests 50,000 young athletes' skills every summer. Last year, Daugherty fell just short of winning, giving him a chip on his shoulder.

“I really wanted to make it, especially since this year is my last year,” Colt said. “I have a batting cage in my backyard. I'm putting in the work everyday doing what I can to get better.”

This year, his hard work paid off. A flight, hotel room, tickets and meals during his trip to the World Series are all paid for. Plus, he gets access to the field before the game.
