SHELBY COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- The Shelby County Emergency Management Agency is warning the public about a scam circulating in the community.

The EMA said it came in the form of an email scam. Someone had sent out an email -- claiming to be a county employee -- asking for money. If you receive a similar request, you should not respond. And, if you're doubtful about who sent the email, verify that it came from a legitimate county employee.

The official email addresses for Shelby County employees can be found online.

If you have been targeted in a scam, visit the Illinois Attorney General online. From there, you can file a consumer complaint, find resources about next steps to take, or speak to someone on one of their consumer fraud hotline.
