MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) -- Sarah Bush Lincoln announced that it plans to grow its Regional Cancer Center by 15,000 square feet. SBL leaders say the project aims to meet the growing demand for cancer care in Central Illinois.

“In 2020, we had about 25,000 visits annually to the Cancer Center,” said Jessi Bergfeld, Administrative Director of Practice Management. “This year, we are on track for nearly 47,000 visits.”

When SBL first opened nearly 10 years ago, it had 17 infusion bays and enough space to accommodate its patients. Now, however, the Center is serving about twice as many patients and is in need of more equipment and space.
