NESBIT, Miss. (WMC) - DeSoto County deputies shot and killed an 18-year-old who they say was firing shots during a large gathering early Sunday morning in Nesbit. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the incident.
The suspect has been identified as Rylee James Westmoreland.
A noise complaint led the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office to a home on Bankston Road shortly after midnight on Sunday, where they found a large crowd of teenagers.
While breaking up the crowd, deputies were alerted that someone up a hill, later identified as Westmoreland, was shooting.
Moments later, deputies saw Westmoreland, who reportedly refused to drop his weapon and instead pointed it at them, and deputies fired their weapons, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.
