LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (AZFamily) — A struggling dog was rescued from a mountain in western Arizona during an organized race this weekend.

A Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Search and Rescue team responded to the Lizard Peak Scramble event in Lake Havasu City on Saturday after a dog was reported to be exhausted during the 5k/10k run to the peak.

The dog, named Oso, weighed more than 100 pounds and was showing clear signs of distress, according to MCSO. He was unable to continue on the trail.

Some of the rescue team provided first aid to Oso while the others went to get a megamover , which is a specialized transport device, in order to carry Oso back to the trailhead.
