NEW BOSTON, Texas- Early voting is underway in Texas.

While there's no contested candidates on the ballot, Bowie County voters will have the opportunity to decide on 17 proposed constitutional amendments.

Voter turnout is generally lower in elections that do not include contested candidates, and Election Administrator Pat McCoy doesn't believe this year will be any different.

“These are things that affect your pocketbook. We've got there are four or five property tax issues in the constitutional amendments. There are other things that affect your day to day,” said McCoy.

Most of the proposed constitutional amendments are measures meant to lower taxes for various Texans including senior citizens and disabled people, veterans' spouses, some businesses and a lot of homeowners.
