LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - Some people would probably love the chance to scam a scammer — now one local law enforcement agency has done just that.

Last week , 19 Investigates showed you how some sophisticated swindlers have been duping people by posing as an officer with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office .

Now that agency has devised a scheme of its own to con the cons.

Majors Steve Scharschmidt and Jeff Krepina recently devised an elaborate plan to trick the crooks into thinking that one of their officers was the intended victim.

“Someone is using a lieutenant in the jail, posing as them, to attempt scams,” said Scharschmidt.

That lieutenant is George Irish , though residents report the scammers still refer to him as “Sergeant Irish”.
