CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland and Akron have seen their first frost of the season, but the first freeze — when temperatures drop to 32 degrees or colder — still lies ahead.

Both Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Akron-Canton Airport dipped into the mid 30s on Oct. 17, marking each airport’s first frost of the season, according to the National Weather Service . Hopkins reached 36 degrees, while Akron-Canton bottomed out at 35.

Based on historical records , Cleveland’s first freeze doesn’t happen until the end of the month. Hopkins’ average first freeze occurs on Oct. 28, while Akron-Canton averages it roughly a week earlier, on Oct. 19.
