An Edinburgh man has been charged after police raced to an incident near a KFC restaurant.

On Sunday, October 19, police were made aware of a hate crime and shoplifting incident around 7pm on Nicolson Street.

Officers attended and a male was charged in connection. It's understood he was arrested opposite KFC as locals watched on.

He is due to appear in court and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A man has been charged in connection with a hate crime and shoplifting which happened around 7pm on Sunday, 19 October, 2025 at Nicholson Street, Edinburgh.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and he due to appear at court at a later date."
