The group Child Care Now NL is calling on the new provincial government to live up to promises made about early childhood education during the election campaign.

The advocacy group applauds the Progressive Conservatives’ support for $10-a-day daycare, and the expansion of childcare spaces.

Now, they want the group to follow through on paid sick leave and a pension plan for Early Childhood Educators.

The pension plan, according to committee chair Yolande Pottie-Sherman, is something that the PC government can move on quickly.

She notes that some work on that should have already taken place as part of the Canada Wide Early Learning and Childcare Agreements first signed in 2021.

She says the groundwork and research on how a pension plan could be implemented should already have been done.
