CHENANGO BRIDGE, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - The rocking chair will have to wait for retiring Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger as he has another occupation that keeps him quite busy during the vegetable growing season.
Stenger and his wife Cathy Frankenbach are owners of Front Porch Farm in Chenango Bridge.
The couple purchased 22 acres of land on River Road, built a house, bought a tractor and other equipment and installed a deer-proof fence around a half-acre garden. They began growing vegetables to donate to charity in 2021.
In classic gardening style, it's been a bit of trial-and-error experimenting with different crops.
This year, they grew pumpkins, potatoes, corn, peas, beans, Swiss chard and a variety of squashes.
While both of them have spent their careers in education,
