Gai Waterhouse has announced Sir Delius will not race anywhere in the spring after sensationally losing his chance to make Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup history .
The five-year-old, favourite for both races, was ruled out after being deemed to be at a heightened risk of injury by Racing Victoria stewards.
The decision quickly prompted speculation that Waterhouse and Adrian Bott could attempt to take the contender to Sydney for the $2m Five Diamonds next month .
In a more pressing matter, Sir Delius was also nominated for the $750,000 Group 3 Craven Plate (1800m) at Randwick this weekend but the stable has opted out of the bold plan to race in Sydney.
