MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Safe Task Force has made more than 1,000 arrests, according to the latest numbers from a spokesperson for the task force. Of those arrests, more than 500 were for felonies.

Three weeks into the Memphis Safe Task Force, both federal agencies and Memphis Police continue to give insight into some of the violent offenders taken into custody. The city said that 180 people wanted for violent crimes were arrested between October 1 and October 20.

On Monday, the task force announced the arrest of Barrington Harwell, a man they said is an admitted member of the Vice Lords gang. A spokesman said that Harwell was pulled over for a traffic infraction and was arrested after officers found two guns in his car. Court records show he previously pleaded guilty to theft and ha
