BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Newborns will be sent home with smoke detectors at Central Vermont Medical Center on Wednesday.
Parents with newborns are overwhelmed by a million different things. Local fire departments want to check working smoke detectors off their list.
The Barre City Fire Department teamed up with Montpelier, East Montpelier, and Berlin fire departments to gather the smoke detectors.
On Wednesday, they’ll hand out around 50 free detectors to families at the medical center’s labor and delivery department.
Barre City Fire Department’s deputy chief says he wants to make sure every newborn goes home to a detector.
It’s an effort to protect families this fire prevention month.
