Campaigners are fighting for the future of Scotland’s remaining publicly owned golf courses after figures showed they have declined by around 10% since 2020.
Just 51 public-owned courses are left in the country - five of them in Aberdeen - and Scottish golf magazine Bunkered has launched its Public Golf Counts campaign in a push to save the remainder.
Data obtained by Bunkered has seen a steady decline of almost 10% since 2020, with notable examples including Dundee’s Caird Park in 2025 and Camperdown in 2020.
Both sites are close to St Andrews and are considered the home of golf in Scotland, according to Bunkered.
Since 2020, Glasgow has seen the closure of Ruchill, Linn Park and Alexandra Park, with only Knightswood and Littlehill remaining in the city.
