HAMSHIRE, Texas — A woman discovered her husband's body in a burn pile at their home Wednesday morning, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The 64-year-old man was working on a burn pile when he accidentally fell into the burning brush pile, according to Capt. Crystal Holmes of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

His wife was at work and had been trying to contact him, Holmes told 12News. When she came home she found his body in the burn pile, Holmes said.

A justice of the peace was sent to the scene along with detectives, who will investigate the man's death, Holmes said.

Deputies must investigate when there is an "unattended death," according to Holmes.
