HONOLULU (Island News) -- A large high-pressure system northwest of Hawaii is keeping the trade winds blowing, which will push more clouds and passing showers toward windward slopes and coasts. On the leeward side of the Big Island, afternoon sea breezes may bring a few showers that will fade by evening.
A weak upper-level trough moving in from the east will bring slightly cooler air higher up in the atmosphere through Saturday. This could cause an isolated thunderstorm or two to pop up over the Big Island each afternoon, but the rest of the islands should stay fairly stable.
The high-pressure system to the northwest will strengthen and move east through the weekend. This will tighten the pressure gradient and make the trade winds stronger, especially Friday and Saturday. Some areas coul
