The department said Shurley was a 27-year law enforcement veteran who was “a staple of joy in our hearts.”

“To know Angie was to love her. Angie was an introverted extrovert who was an absolute joy to be around,” the department said in a Facebook post announcing Shurley’s death. “She was a calming voice of reason to all she met.”

Polk County police said Shurley was a “dedicated employee” who always put others before herself and made sure those around her were taken care of.
