Coconino County Search and Rescue (SAR) crews assisted a pair of hikers who were injured in a lightning strike near the top of Humphreys Peak, as well as a pair of teenage hikers who ended up being lost after an encounter with a bear, on Wednesday afternoon.
The first call was received around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday morning from the two male hikers, who reported being struck by lightning near the summit of Humphreys Peak as storms in the area brought thunderstorms and hail. The two men, one a Flagstaff resident and one from Canada, were traveling separately and did not know each other prior to the incident.
