COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The former executive director of the South Carolina Election Commission is now behind bars on multiple charges related to ethics violations.

Records show Howard Knapp was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Friday and charged with nine counts of ethics accountability violations. He’s also facing counts of embezzlement of public funds and accessory after the fact of a felony.

A mugshot of Knapp was not immediately available.

Public court records state Knapp is scheduled for a 2 p.m. bond hearing on Friday. They also list the arresting officer in the case as being from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
