Metro is looking to expand Northwest Davidson County’s Beaman Park through the acquisition of more than 300 acres of woodlands city officials say is “highly threatened” by development.

The Metro Council passed a resolution on Oct. 21 allowing Metro Nashville Parks to partner with Virginia-based nonprofit The Conservation Fund to apply for a nearly $1.7 million grant from the Tennessee Heritage Conservation Trust Fund to acquire about 308 acres of land adjoining the existing 2,370-acre Beaman Park.

If the grant is awarded, The Conservation Fund would purchase the property and temporarily hold it so that it eventually can be transferred to Metro for long-term management. Metro would contribute $1 million towards the purchase if the city receives the grant.
