New Castle survived an upset bid with an impressive performance in the second half of its Parkway Conference finale Friday at Blackhawk to post a 41-17 victory.
The win earned New Castle (8-2, 4-1), ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, a share of the conference title with No. 5-ranked Montour (7-3, 4-1). However, the Hurricanes are designated as the top seed in the conference due to their win against Montour on Oct. 3.
The WPIAL football committee will announce the playoff pairings Saturday.
Blackhawk jumped out to a 17-7 lead with touchdown runs of 6 and 2 yards by Hayden Magill and a 22-yard field goal by Will Brown. Those would be the only points the Cougars would score.
