Scared dog owners can breathe a sigh of relief with seaweed — sometimes hiding deadly sea hares — being cleared off Hillarys dog beach.

The City of Joondalup confirmed on Thursday that the washed up seaweed would be removed as needed and that signage had been put in place warning beachgoers of dangerous sea hares, which are extremely poisonous to dogs and other pets, on the shore.

“The city has erected signs at the pedestrian access ways to the Hillarys animal exercise beach to warn beachgoers that there may be poisonous sea hares in the area,” City of Joondalup chief executive James Pearson said.

“The city has also arranged for most of the seaweed on the beach to be removed.
