DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Two people were injured after gunshots rang out at a party near the North Carolina Central University campus on Saturday night, police said.

According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to assist N.C. Central University police with clearing a “large gathering” on the 300 block of Pekoe Street when gunshots were fired.

One woman was driven to the 400 block of Pilot Street with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, while a second was taken to the 2000 block of Otis Street with life-threatening injuries, police said.

EMS crews transported both victims to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries, according to Durham police.
