Several vacationers who were in Jamaica returned to South Florida on Sunday as tropical storm-force winds and heavy rain were felt on the Caribbean island after Hurricane Melissa strengthened into a Category 4 storm.
All flights from Montego Bay to Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport have since been canceled.
NBC6 spoke to several passengers at Miami International Airport who left Montego Bay as conditions became worse.
Demarkis Edwards was in Jamaica with a few friends when he had to leave. He said the weather was fine during his time there.
"Thursday, the weather was fine, Friday, the weather was a little sprinkles here and there, but they shut down the airport at 12 noon," he said.
