DALLAS — Southwest Airlines reported increased revenue last quarter, giving investors a first look at the impact of the revenue-boosting changes the company has begun to implement. American Airlines reported another quarter of losses, but brought in more revenue than expected.
Dallas-based Southwest's revenue rose 1% to $6.95 billion in the third quarter. The revenue surpassed analysts' expectations of $6.92 billion; however, its profit declined 19% to $54 million, or 10 cents per share, compared with the same quarter the year prior.
The third-quarter results are the first indication of the impact of the airline's recent policy changes , including charging for bags and adding assigned seating. It was the first full quarter after the airline began charging for bags, according to the Dal
