Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce has made clear he will not accept any compromise on net zero policy, insisting the only acceptable position is its complete abolition.

Mr Joyce skipped the Nationals partyroom meeting on Monday, telling Sky News it was better for the party that he was not there.

“I know I don't need to be part of a discussion (on net zero). In fact, it's probably better that I'm not there,” Mr Joyce said.

“And that is so that the room can have the confidence that what they say stay stays in the room.”

Mr Joyce has been increasingly outspoken on net zero in recent months, rejecting any position that was not a complete abandonment of the emissions policy.

“I think everybody knows my position. My position is adamantly against net zero,” Joyce told Sky News.
