Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has sat down with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the ASEAN forum on Monday.

The bilateral meeting has come at a time of regional instability, with multiple public disagreement between China and Australia in recent months.

During the meeting, Mr Albanese said his government “remains committed to the stabilisation of the relationship” between Australia and China.

“Whenever there are differences we navigate those wisely, including on regional strategic issues in forums such as ASEAN and of course APEC,” he said.

“Australia values direct discussions between our countries. Dialogue builds deeper mutual understanding on issues that matter to us.

“We remain committed to working with partners to shape a region where transparency and rules are respected.”
