HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two young fishermen who were found unresponsive in West Oahu waters on Saturday morning have now died, according to the Honolulu Police Department, which is investigating two unattended death cases for the incident.
The 18-year-olds were fishing on the rocks near Kaena Point when one of them was reportedly swept into the ocean. The other went in to help him, but neither of them returned.
The men have not yet been officially identified. Friends and family members left flowers at the site on Sunday afternoon, but did not want to offer comment at the time.
“They’re fellow fishermen, you never expect to go out fishing and that might be your last day,” said Jon Kanno, who was also fishing in the area on Saturday morning and saw the rescue efforts.
