Two children have drowned in the Lichenya River in Mulanje District.

Mulanje District Police Spokesperson, Innocent Moses, identified the victims as Maxwell Thonyiwa, aged 10, and Francis Walani, aged 8, both from Masepulapa Village in the Tombondiya area.

According to Moses, the incident occurred on October 26 when the children went to the river with their mother.

While there, they reportedly wandered to another section of the river to swim. Unfortunately, they reached a deep spot and drowned.

A post-mortem examination conducted at Mulanje District Hospital revealed that the cause of death was suffocation due to drowning.
