LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A new safety measure is in effect in Liberty County schools.
Students and staff will now be required to go through a weapons detection system before they can enter any middle or high school.
Bright and early Monday morning, students walked through new OpenGate weapon detection devices.
Some students told us it felt similar to what they’d do at a concert and even compared it to an airport.
Before Monday, students would get their backpacks checked and they’d use a wand system. But now, they’ll just walk through the detection devices.
Because it was the first day, they’re still figuring out what unharmful items will or won’t set the alarms off. Things like perfume bottles and chromebooks had to be removed Monday morning.
