INDIANAPOLIS – The Capitol Police Section of the Indiana State Police (ISP) is reaching out to the public for assistance in locating two critically endangered tortoises that were stolen from the Indianapolis Zoo earlier this month.

According to investigators, the theft occurred sometime between 10:00 a.m. on October 11th and 10:00 a.m. on October 12th.

The two stolen reptiles include an Egyptian tortoise and a Northern Spider tortoise. Both species are currently listed as critically endangered, highlighting the severity of the loss.

Authorities have noted that both tortoises are microchipped. Additionally, the Egyptian tortoise can be identified by a prominent scar on its underside.

The ISP is urging anyone with information related to this theft to contact law enforcement immediately.
