Now is the time to plant trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials. The cooler weather will allow them to become better established than planting during the summer. Another type of plant that can be planted in autumn are spring flowering bulbs. Daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, crocus, and many other will color the landscape in the spring.
By planting spring flowering bulbs in the fall, bulbs will receive the natural chilling required for proper flowering. In addition, fall planting allows the bulb to develop a strong root system to support those spring flowers.
Many garden centers are selling flowering bulbs. Most are hardy across the state of Georgia. Some bulbs do not perennialize, that is, they do not come back year after year. They only bloom for one or two years before they fade away. T
