MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - Several crews were on the scene of a rescue involving an animal stuck in a canal over the weekend, and that's coming straight from the horse's mouth.

Clifton Fire Protection District (CFPD) was dispatched on Saturday after receiving reports of a horse stuck in the canal. CFPD crews and other agencies worked together to safely rescue and transport the animal to a veterinarian for evaluation. The horse was wrapped in a harness before it was lifted out of the water with a crane.

Lower Valley Fire District, Grand Junction Fire Department, Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Giradi's Towing all assisted with the rescue.
