WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man is in custody awaiting formal charges after a reported kidnapping and rape of a child in Barton County.

Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said his office was notified of the alleged attack Saturday afternoon.

A juvenile reported being raped by a man they knew in a rural area of the county. Bellendir said deputies were notified that the man was also armed.

The man was found driving on 35 Avenue southeast of Great Bend and, after a traffic stop, was taken into custody.

He is being held on a $500,000 bond on the requested charges of kidnapping and rape. Formal charges against the man are pending.

It is KSN policy not to identify suspects until they have been formally charged with a felony crime.
