EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — As the government shutdown continues, millions of Americans are set to lose food assistance this week, including thousands of people in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The shutdown has left many people with questions surrounding their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Here's what we know as of Monday morning:

When will benefits stop being issued?

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) said food assistance benefits will not be issued on Nov. 1.

If I have leftover October benefits, can I still use them?

Yes. Anyone who has benefits left over from October will still be able to use them in November. While Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards will still work, they will not be refilled.
