NEW YORK (PIX11) --- A co-founder of Black Lives Matter Greater New York is accused of throwing a bullhorn at a local politician during a rally in Manhattan on Thursday, police said.
Walter "Hawk" Newsome, 48, was arrested Monday and charged with attempted felony assault, attempted misdemeanor assault, and harassment, according to the NYPD.
Newsome allegedly threw a bullhorn at Democratic District Leader William Allen, 66, during a protest outside of Council Member Yusef Salaam’s office on West 125th Street at around 10:45 a.m., cops said.
Newsome supporters rallied outside the 28th Precinct in Harlem, where the activist turned himself in, according to video from the scene.
The crowd held "Free Hawk" signs as the Newsome walked into the stationhouse.
His arraignment was pending.
