ROY, Wash. (KING) – Authorities in Washington state said one person was killed by a tree that fell during a Halloween event.
Deputies in Roy said 40 to 80 people were attending a pop-up Halloween market when the tree snapped in half.
Officials said hundreds of pounds fell on top of six to eight booths at the event.
“Sounded like lightning, and then the tree fell and everyone started screaming and started running,” witness Brendan Burns said.
Dozens of other people were left stunned in the parking lot for the event.
“We were all over there and we heard a big old crack, and then everyone just started running,” Burns said.
Deputies said the fallen tree trapped seven people. Three of them were treated at the scene, while three others were rushed to hospitals.
