The City of Belleville has entered an agreement through its Family Physician Recruitment Program, Mayor Neil Ellis announced Monday in council.

Ellis confirmed yet another doctor has been secured to practise in the city to counter a doctor shortage experienced by up to 15,000 residents.

“I believe this is number 23 if I am correct,” Ellis told council referring to the number of new physicians recruited in this term of council, bringing the total number of doctors brought by the city to well above 60 since he first introduced as mayor in 2006.

The city has also recruited eight new nurse practitioners to the city.
