DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) - U.S. Senate candidate and former State Representative Josh Turek says Iowa ranchers are calling it a perfect storm.

“The farmers that I’m out there talking to are deeming this like a legitimate farmageddon,” he said at a press conference Monday.

Last week, the Trump administration announced plans to import more foreign beef to the U.S.

Fifth-generation cattle rancher and Crawford County supervisor Dave Muhlbauer says it could devastate an industry already struggling.

“We have a rising average age of farmers, ranchers. The 10-year cycle in the cattle market is extremely challenging. Our input costs, a lot of inputs have gone up dramatically through tariffs. These are all things we’re dealing with,” he said.
