NEW ORLEANS — Friends and fellow coaches describe Frank Wilson as a leader of men—not just a football coach.
St. Augustine High School head coach Kyle Gilbert and principal Lasana Cambrice have deep ties to LSU's new interim head coach, Frank Wilson.
Cambrice and Wilson walked the halls of St. Aug together as students in the early 1990s. Wilson played for the Purple Knights.
Gilbert coached with him at O. Perry Walker in Algiers. He spoke with Wilson after the appointment.
"He's ready,” Gilbert said. “He's excited about the opportunity. He spent some long hours last night at the indoor facility, and he was back there this morning to go to work.”
Cambrice said the Tigers will rally around their new head coach.
