SALEM, Va. (WDBJ) - Beginning Monday afternoon, the Virginia General Assembly is holding a special session called by Democrats to consider redistricting that would change Virginia’s congressional makeup.
The move is an effort by Democrats to gain more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Virginia is just the latest state to take up partisan redistricting after Texas, California, and other states did so earlier this year.
Local Republican legislators slammed the proposal, calling it a political stunt.
“The reason I’m leaving right now is to go to Richmond to spend the next week, the next five days, potentially overturning the will of the voters as it relates to the redistricting process that we go through in the Commonwealth,” said 41st District Delegate Joe McNamara, a Republic
