Portland police cited one person, arrested another and towed a car as officers worked to disrupt two separate street takeover events in the St. Johns and the Lloyd District neighborhoods over the weekend.
On Friday night, officers responded to the 15000 block of North Columbia Boulevard where they saw about 10 drivers who had taken over the street. Police said one driver, 30-year-old Daniel Miahalut, was detained and cited for reckless driving and unlawful street takeover.
Police towed Miahalut’s BMW coupe under state law and city code that allow police to seize cars used in street racing.
After midnight on Sunday, officers spotted multiple vehicles engaging in a street takeover near the Moda Center and Rose Quarter Transit Center. Meanwhile, police said pedestrians ignited fireworks
